Party Drugs - Coke

Coke is one of the street terms or slang names for the drug cocaine. Coke is made from cocoa plant leaves and is an extremely powerful and addictive drug. In fact, it is one of the most addictive drugs around. Coke is a drug that strongly stimulates the central nervous system. This drug interferes with the absorption of dopamine. Dopamine is a chemical in the body that has to do with movement and pleasure. When the dopamine builds up this causes the neurons to receive stimulation on a continuous basis. All of this results in the euphoria that many Coke users experience.

What are some of the physical effects of using Coke? Some of these are dilated pupils, blood vessels that have become constricted, increased blood pressure, increased heart rate, and an increased body temperature. Depending on how the drug is administered, the immediate effects of Coke can include over stimulation and reduced fatigue. The faster the drug is absorbed, the greater the high will be. At the same time, the faster the drug is absorbed, the lesser the amount of time the drug will effect the user.

For users who snort Coke, the effects (the high) typically lasts between 15 - 30 minutes. For users who smoke it, the effects (the high) typically lasts between 5 - 10 minutes. Over time, as the user uses more of the drug, the time that the user is high will diminish. It will also result in an increased chance that the user will become addicted.

Some Coke users have mentioned that they feel irritable, anxious, and restless from doing Coke. Over time, some users will develop somewhat of a tolerance for the drug. This results in the drug not effecting them as much as it did in the beginning. Because of that, some of these users will begin taking more of the drug in order to attempt to increase the effects. Even though some people begin to develop a tolerance, they also sometimes become more sensitive to the anesthetic properties of the drug. This could possibly explain why some users have died from taking relatively low doses of Coke.
