Marijuana comes from the Cannabis plant. For centuries, this drug has been used by cultures around the world. It has been used for various purposes such as medicinal and even spiritual in some cultures. Throughout the history of mankind, marijuana has been used to treat maladies such as glaucoma, headaches and nausea that results from cancer patients receiving chemotherapy treatments. This drug has also become part of pop culture in many countries. It is common to see pot joints passed around at concerts. Also, the drug has been featured in a number of feature motion pictures. This has happened so much that the drug has become mainstream.

The active ingredient in marijuana is called THC. This ingredient effects the immune system of the user. It gives the user a sense of relaxation that is prolonged. It is also known to cause some to feel disorientated and sleepy. Another common effect of this drug is it causes the user to become hungry. There are also a number of negative effects such as memory loss and paranoia. As is the case with regular tobacco, there is also an increased risk of lung cancer and related illnesses. Some people also claim that marijuana is a gateway drug to other more hard core drugs.

Even though some people feel that using marijuana is not a big deal, it is still a drug and it does have negative side effects that have been documented. Combined with the fact, that it is illegal in most areas, it is something that should be avoided.
